Overview:

The posted video is one of only a few publicly posted (not muted in most places) full stream VoDs from the livestream episode 103 dated 4/2/2019 Tuesday, and uploaded to YouTube as “Best Uplifting Vocal Trance Mix 2019 #1”. I wouldn’t say it’s even close to the best mix even best that I’ve done, but tried to play the YT algo game with it. Being that it was episode 103, and I probably ended up with over 150 episodes, my last real DJ live stream 4/22/23 is probably my actual best Trance mix and should easily supersede the video, but being that this page is centered towards my DJ live stream arc, I had to at least post a video of a live stream!

The rest of this post will be a generalization of my DJ streaming “career”, any notable highlights, followed by a photo dump “highlight reel” of screenshots and memories from DJ streams that I have record of. Since I am just now creating this post in 2025, I will add more as I stumble back across them.

Here is an audio stream of the mentioned 4/22/23 personal “Best Trance” set hosted via Mixcloud, along with the previous 10 live sets in audio form

Story:

I started DJing back in 2017, after stumbling across a livestream event of Ultra’s Ultra Miami in 2017. I didn’t really know what or how DJing was at that time, but the livestream looked really neat (and in retrospect, was apparently around the “peak” of EDM, some say). I didn’t really take action much at the time until I later stumbled across another livestream, an individual who went by the name “Jovian”, that was DJing from home. I hung around in stream for a bit, and chatted with him and others throughout various different live stream sessions. Eventually, I started picking Jovian’s brain for DJ tips, how/what/etc. and his recommendations and advice are what really started my dedication to getting involved.

Apparently he had a kickback sort of partnership with this store/service DJTechTools, and while I was browsing their site for gear, I began talking to one of their live chat representatives. I was recommended to get a specific gear based on my budget and potential use(s), and then I mentioned I was talking to Jovian about it as well. When I mentioned that, the chat rep was all, oh you know Jovian? I was like yea? (honestly not really, though, at least not at that time) and the rep said if I used this certain code during checkout for that month, it would be a pretty good discount. I ended up getting the brand new controller and DJTechTools branded chroma key caps for it for the price the controllers were selling used. I thought that offer was too good to pass (if I hated DJing, I could likely brake even, or take a very small loss by selling the controller used).

After getting the controller in, I spent a couple hours trying to familiarize myself with the controls, layout, software, and then started looking up where/how to build my song collection. My initial resources were looking up set/tracklists from Jovian’s live streams as well as other DJs I seen that I liked their sets. After getting about 50-100 songs built up, I took maybe 5-10 more hours trying to figure out how to “mix” the tracks. After getting the basics, I then decided I was going to livestream the whole process of “wanting to become a DJ”, and started at episode 1. Basically, I was livestreaming the entire progression of me learning how to DJ, improving, and expanding my collection and techniques.

My first episode stream was dated 6/21/2017 on a Wednesday, and I titled my live stream “I want to become a DJ Episode 1 – How Did I Get Here”. Through the end of 2017 and through 2018 I ended up streaming 88 times, with an average of 3 hours per set. By the end of 2019 I had streamed at least 140 episodes before winding down the frequency of DJ streaming going into 2020+.

Notable Milestones

  • 6/21/2017 – First DJ Stream (episode 1)
  • 7/10/2017 – Became Twitch affiliated status (episode 5)
  • 10/11/2017 – Received first Subscriber (episode 14)
  • 9/11/2018 – 250+ hours streamed (episode 59)
  • 10/28/2018 – Jovian’s 2018 Twitchcon Sunday Brunch DJ event. My first in person DJ event.
  • 11/11/2018 – 20 hour DJ stream (episode 79)
    • This was part of a bet I lost, and was shortly after my birthday stream, so was also part of a celebration set
  • February 2019 – Around this time is when I started looking into and playing Trance music
  • 3/24/2019 – 100th DJ live stream, done also in person (first in person DJ set that wasn’t marketed as a DJ party/event, and also me being the “headliner”) at a local brewery.
  • 3/26/2019 – Did an Ultra Miami Parody live stream as a re-do from the botched livestream from the brewery (the internet connection was horrible, and I took my whole desktop setup there to try and livestream, and it didn’t get setup right). I green screened my livestream to make it look like I was DJing from the Miami main stage (episode 101)
  • 2019 – Started managing DJ booth at local venue.
  • 2/9/2020 – Did a takeover of another DJ’s livestream (Jus_Hak), and branded it “Jus_hacked Fest 2020 Main Stage” (Episode 143)
  • 2020-2022 – DJ streaming started winding down for multiple various reasons
  • 2022 – Started getting good at making really enjoyable Trance mixes
  • 4/22/23 – One of the last (at least for now) DJ live streams and also one of my all time favorites doing a Trance intro, into “A State of Trance” style, closing with emotional/vocal Trance. This episode is still currently (at least as of 2025 and the posting of this article) hosted via Mixcloud for free listening titled “Aeon Psych – Live @ ASOT twitch.tv/aeonpsych – 04-22-23 [Trance / ASOT / Closer Trance]”
